Srdjan Djokovic; Roger Federer, you're 40, raise children, go ski, do something else
Srdjan Djokovic has suggested that Roger Federer still plays tennis because he desperately wants to prevent Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal from breaking his records.
Federer, who will be turning 39 this coming August, is a record 20-time Grand Slam champion and he has spent the most weeks as world No.1.
Nadal, 34, is second on the all-time Grand Slam record list with 19 Majors captured, while Djokovic sits in the third place with 17 Majors won.
Djokovic senior has told Federer that there are more important things in life than tennis and that he finds it a bit funny that he is still playing at the near age of 40.
"Novak is a compilation of the best qualities of my wife and me. It came together into one, in him, and what was wrong remained with us.
He took the good for himself. Why is this happening with Federer, who is still the most successful and best tennis player in the world? That is a fact according to the results, but that won't last for a long time.
Because he cultivates so much animosity towards Novak. They have developed a kind of respect over the years, but why do you think he still plays at 40?
Imagine that, a 40-year-old man still plays tennis, when he can go home and do some more interesting things.
But since both Nadal and Novak are breathing down his neck, he simply cannot accept the fact that they will be better than him. Come on man, raise children, do something else, go ski, do something.
Tennis is not the whole life, it is just my son's current hobby.
He's just a tennis player right now," Djokovic senior said on Sport Klub's show Spo(r)tlight.
Novak Djokovic has admitted he wants to break the biggest records.
Djokovic, 33, has said multiple times over the last several months that his big goal is to become a record Grand Slam champion and break the record for the most weeks spent as world No.1.
Federer, who hasn't won a Grand Slam title since he beat Marin Cilic in the 2018 Australian Open final, blew an outstanding chance to win his 21st Grand Slam title at last year's Wimbledon.
Novak Djokovic saved two consecutive championship points on Federer's serve in the fifth set of the final, before he sealed the title in the tie-break.
