Defending champion Angelique Kerber after loss:'Of course I'm disappointed'

It was with a 6-2 2-6 1-6 defeat to Lauren Davis on Court 2 that Wimbledon defending ladies champion Angelique Kerber bid farewell to the 2019 edition of The Championships.

"I was trying to find my game the whole match," Sportsmole quoted the German.

"I was not really feeling good from the beginning.

Kerber confessed, "During the warm-up, I realized how slow it was, it's not an excuse, but it's a reality, I'm very disappointed, there's no other alternative but to accept that these things can happen."

The World No. 5 had beat Serena Williams on the All England Court in 2018, so losing before the round of 32 this year was not in her program.

"Of course I'm disappointed," the 31-year-old admitted according to BBC Sports.

"Of course, it's not the way I would like to finish here or to play here. But you have sometimes days like that. You have to accept it.

You have to learn from it, trying to forget this as soon as possible." To reach the second round, Kerber had bypassed countrywoman Tatjana Maria 6-4 6-3.
