US Open tips: Boris Becker makes bold Rafael Nadal prediction, Roger Federer overlooked
THE US OPEN will be won by Rafael Nadal this week, according to tennis legend Boris Becker.
The Spaniard is the current tournament favourite with the bookmakers after securing his place in the quarter final on Sunday.
Nadal survived an energy-sapping four-set clash with Nikoloz Basilashvili to set up a meeting with Dominic Thiem this week.
Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic still have their round of 16 ties to come in the coming hours, taking on John Millman and Joao Sousa respectively.
And Becker believes Nadal is the outright favourite after an impressive year of tennis for the world No 1.
"For me Nadal is the ultimate favourite, because his season was unbelievable and he is the number one," he said.
"[Nadal] won in Toronto a little time ago and he is going through a great time.

"After that I would say Djokovic - he won Wimbledon and this is big.
"Then Federer, who is loved by New York fans, but we will have to see how he handles such a long tournament.
"I would also mention [Alexander] Zverev and [Juan Martin] del Potro, because this last one knows how to win here."
Becker spent three years with Djokovic before parting ways with the Serb back in 2016.
And the tennis legend is glad to see his former student back to his sumptuous best.
"Once you were a champion, you will always be a champion," Becker continued.

"He has a champion's mentality.
"Obviously he needed time, play matches, and I am happy that he is with his old team again, because it will give him more confidence.
"Novak is a champion, so that for me it was a time matter."
The US Open final takes place in New York this Sunday where the winner will take home $3.8m (£2.9m)
