Roger Federer next match: When will Swiss star play next?
ROGER FEDERER lost further ground on Rafael Nadal in the world rankings by failing to defend his Wimbledon title, but when is the Swiss star next in action?
Federer dropped 1,640 ATP points when he suffered a shock quarter-final defeat to Kevin Anderson last week.
That allowed arch-rival Nadal to cement his place as the world No 1 as he powered to the semi-finals before eventually meeting his match against Novak Djokovic.
Federer’s shock defeat at the All England Club has cast serious doubt on whether he will ever return back to the top of the standings.
But the 36-year-old will get his first chance to close the gap to Nadal in a fortnight’s time when he returns to action.
Federer is currently enjoying a two break
Federer is currently enjoying a two-week break after a demanding grass season which saw him play in Stuttgart, Halle and London.
He returns to challenge for the Canadian Open on August 6.
The world No 2 lost to Alexander Zverev in the final of last year’s season-opening hard court tournament.
However, even with success in Canada, Federer will not be able to return to the top of the world rankings until the US Open.
Nadal is 2,230 points ahead of Federer, and that gap will remain tight unless the Spaniard fails to defend his American Grand Slam title.
Federer has a preliminary ATP tour schedule of:
Canadian Open, Masters 1000: Aug 6 - Aug 12
Cincinnati Masters, Masters 1000: Aug 13 - Aug 19
US Open, Grand Slam: Hard Aug 27 - Sep 9
Shanghai Masters, Masters 1000: Oct 8 - Oct 14
Swiss Indoors, 500 Series: Oct 22 - Oct 28
ATP World Tour Finals: Nov 11 - Nov 18
He will also play at the Laver Cup, which takes place between Sep 21 and Sep 23.
