Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal: Andre Agassi weighs-in on iconic tennis debate

ANDRE AGASSI has weighed-in on the debate; who is better Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal?

Federer, 37, is currently second in the world rankings but has won 20 Grand Slam titles throughout his career.

In contrast, Nadal, 32, is the world No 1 but has won four fewer major tournaments - although it is likely he will chalk up number 17 at the French Open this week.

Tennis supporters have been debating for the past decade who they think is the true greatest of the game.

And Agassi believes Nadal should be hailed in higher regard than his Swiss rival.

“It is interesting the debate about who is better if it is Nadal or Federer,” Agassi told Marca.

“Roger makes everything easy but Rafa's intensity from the first to the last point is unique.

“What I have said and continue to say is the Spaniard is the biggest competitor that has given the sport regardless of the discipline.

“The numbers are there and it is true that 20 Grand Slams are 20 and 21 are 21.

Nadal is hoping to win his 17th Grand Slam at the French Open this week

“I do not question that but the story is not just numbers and there are examples of it.

“I go with Rafa every time he plays and I go with Roger every time he goes out on a track.

“And when they play between them, I take it as a historical moment.”

Federer is currently resting throughout the clay-court season as part of his Wimbledon preparations.
